Isabella's new word problem!!

Isabella has created another word problem for you to solve.She needs you to share your thinking and prove your answer!


Akeelah has 72 pencils and Brie has 13 pencils. How many pencils do they have altogether?

  3. 85 because 70+10=80 3+2=5 and put it all togher 85

    3+2=5
    so 72+13=85

    then i took the ones=5

    Fish out the tens. (70, 10)
    70+10=80
    Now get the ones. (2,3)
    2+3=5
    get both the numbers(80,5)
    80+5=85
    72+13=85

    so i took the tens 70 and 10 =80 then the ones 2 and 3 =5 so its 85
